Two special economic zones have been operating in the Podkarpackie for a few years: The Tarnobrzeg Special Economic Zone WISŁOSAN and the Special Economic Zone EURO-PARK Mielec, which was the first zone of this kind created in Poland. The Special Economic Zones of Podkarpacie have led to the gradual reduction of the effects of structural unemployment, which was born as a result of the collapse of entire industries. In addition, their operation has allowed to:
- to develop the existing industrial assets and economic infrastructure;
- to develop certain economic activities and new technological solutions, and
- to increase the competitiveness of goods and services.
The Science and Technology Park of Podkarpacie, established in 2003, is yet another form of economic activity initiation areas. Its main objective is to transfer technologies and to stipulate innovation among businesses operating in its area, but also, and most importantly, to use the potential of the regional academic, scientific and research sector for the development of entrepreneurship and to strengthen the competitiveness of companies in the local market.
The south-eastern Poland, namely the areas of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, are associated with the aviation industry for nearly a century. The use of this potential and at the same time attempt to create a kind of aviation consortium became the foundation for establishment of the Association of the Group of Aviation Industry Entrepreneurs “Aviation-Valley”. Its activity is to transform the Podkarpackie into a major European aviation region.
